Finally, Some Baby News

FINALLY!!!!! News from the hospital this afternoon - they are NOT discharging Baby Dee until Wednesday mid-day. I have been pacing and pacing and waiting and waiting!!!!! Wednesday will be a big meet up at the hospital with Social Workers, Supervisors and Division oF Families Nurses and The Other Mother and me....for training and planning....

They will discharge baby Dee to us with oxygen but will remove the NG tube prior to discharge. She still is not gaining weight and they are concerned overall about her ability to effectively feed and gain weight - she has trouble with 2 ounces every two hours...very sluggish.

That leaves me a day or so to get a few more things done that will be challenging with a little one and when I am sleep deprived. Maybe I should go take a nap.

  3. Hello from Olympia! I've been a reader for a month or so but am a first-time commenter.

My partner and I adopted our son at birth (18 mo. ago) in an open adoption, and are now getting licensed to do foster-adoption of a little one (no idea who that will be yet). After that, we'll probably do foster care.

Anyway, I've been loving hearing about your family, and the plans for the new babe. I'll be sending healing thoughts to baby Dee! Good luck to you two and your crew!

  4. Get some sleep! And every babe is different but sometimes the feeding issue is resolved in a very attentive and more stimulating environment (aka your home!)KC was 4 lbs 2 oz at birth and I think he was a few months old as well before he reached 6 pounds. He was a good feeder but could only take 2 oz at a shot and it turned out he was allergic to milk which was impeding things. Our MD kept saying it was just reflux because he was preemie but we finally tried the soy and voila the formula stayed where we put it and he thrived. The training was scary to me; I remember 6 hrs in the NICU in Chicago. But it was scary because he was supposed to be a full term C section baby who came early. So we did not have our minds wrapped around teeny weeny.

  5. I agree.. go take a nap!

We got our foster baby at 2 days old. She's almost 4 months now and we are still tired! We alternate on the weekends.. on Friday one of us sleeps all night and however long we want to the next morning and then on Saturday the other one gets to. Helps to get caught up on the weekends!
